Rotary District Governor 2018-19 Installed – Chennai (R.I.Dist 3232)

Chennai: Rotary International is one of the largest organization with presence worldwide
with over 1.2 million members addressing challenges of the mankind. Chennai is Rotary
International District 3232 which consists of 107 clubs with over 4500 members (Rotarians),
135 Rotaract Clubs and 15000 Rotaractors. Every year a new leader is elected who takes
over as District Governor on 1st of July.
This year, a leading Chennai based Chartered Accountant Rtn.Babu Peram has been
installed as District Governor for the year 2018-19 who addressed a huge gathering at
Chennai Trade Center on 1st of July, 2018. The Chief Guest was Past Rotary International
President (2015-16) Rtn. K.R.Ravindran – the first Tamil origin RI President, from Rotary Club
of Colombo.
The Rotary Theme this year is “Be the inspiration”. On that note, DG Rtn.Babu Peram
started with Community Service Projects on the day 1 by performing Bhoomi Puja for
construction of 64 houses and to develop a modern village for the Irula tribal families in
Kuyilkuppam near Mahabalipuram supported by past district governor Rtn.Abirami
Ramanathan. 64 families would get new houses with all essential home appliances with
community health center in addition to creation of alternative employment opportunities.
The District Governor in his speech inspired many and the Rotarians in the district
donated US$ 5,80,000 on the day 1 to The Rotary Foundation. He plans the year to do
many community development projects in health, education, skill development,
construction of public toilets in 20 places, building libraries, smart classrooms in 100
schools, creating vocational training centers, joining hands with corporates to do larger
projects. He has committed that R.I.Dist 3232 would do project worth US$ 5 million in
2018-19 within Chennai district which brings a lot of changes in the society.
